Overview

Pasahe is a fare-estimation app for Philippine public transport. The local fare system is fragmented across jeepneys, buses, taxis, and ride-share services with different rules in different cities. People end up either guessing or asking other passengers. Pasahe gives commuters a quick way to estimate what a trip should cost before they board, so they're not negotiating fare from a position of uncertainty.

What it does

The app calculates fares based on transport mode, distance, and city-specific rate tables. The UI is intentionally simple - pick start and end points, pick a mode, see an estimate. There's no account creation, no analytics, no upsell. The product is the estimate. Everything else gets in the way.

Why Flutter

Flutter was the right choice because we needed to ship cross-platform from a small team without doubling the engineering work. Dart's type system caught a lot of fare-table bugs before they shipped. The widget composition model made the simple UI easy to maintain even as we added more transport modes.

What I learned

This project taught me that local-context products are harder than they look. Fare tables vary not just between cities, but between routes, time of day, and operator categories. The hardest part was sourcing the right data and updating it as rules changed. The technical layer was straightforward. The data work was where the real cost lived.
